The Bale Queen, the Bale Blade Queen, The Dark Lady, The Raven, Queen of the Damned, add any other name you desire, I'm sure she's been called it.
The Bale Queen is one of the early (though not original) Psions. She understood the problems of the Ways reaching out beyond normal space-time into what you might call the Far Realm - a place of nightmare. She understood the enormity of the problem that such a link could become. Evidence suggested that creation could fold in on itself, and the Big Bang of creation would reverse. The multiverse would become a singularity again, one point outside of space and time, waiting for a new emergance, a new 'big bang'. How many times has this already happened? Countless, probably. The truth is pretty close. The only difference is that the collapse pours all the collective conciousness of the multiverse into the Far Realm, twisted and perverse, strengthening its nightmare properties, spawning new entities or evolving ancient ones. So in effect, the Far Realm wants to collapse the multiverse and return to the base state of entropy that is in reality, normal.
When the Psions decided to close the Ways, she and a few others realised that it wasnt the Ways that were the problem, but the people using them. There would just be new Ways developed, Races that could inately interact with the multiverse were evolving, different technology and 'magic' would be able to do the same thing. So she and the few others decided to keep one set of Ways functioning, on an insignificant planet in some remote galaxy. She chose the world that would becoem home to Greyflood.
The Bale Queen crops up through out Greyfloods history - well, she is Immortal and a Psion skilled in use of the Ways, AND she wields the Bale Blade, so its not a hard feat to accomplish!
Shes a character of myth and legend in so many cultures - sometimes terrible and sometimes not.
She was leader of the Khodain, an army of knights who protected the knowledge of the Ways.
Her some time consort was the Way Born Doomseeker, but their paths have long since diverged.
